I have something to say.

I am a big fan of organized labour. This country was built on the backs of Union workers and they ( and all workers) deserve our respect and gratitude. Unions strike for many reasons, usually good ones, health care, retirement benefits, worker safety, fair hours, wages and compensation. Almost no one likes a strike. Currently television writers are on strike mostly over payments of residual earnings for DVD and online content. A worthy cause and something that they should be fairly compensated for. My problem is this; they are risking to jobs and livelihoods of thousands of grips, caterers, wardrobe assistants, parking attendants, security guards, concession workers, janitors, secretaries, drivers and a host of other industry workers. These folks won't get paid while the writers are out, they won't get strike pay and they won't get any big benefit when the writers come back. Aside from higher credit card debt and lighter savings they will have nothing to show for the weeks ( or months) of layoffs. And what if the lack of new programming turns viewers off of network TV all together, then what? Then the writers can join the grips, caterers, janitors and wardrobe assistants in the unemployment line. Poorly timed, this strike only inflates the idea that Hollywood has nothing better to do than sit around and whine at itself. These are dream jobs people. Grow up, solve your problems, get your residuals and get back to work. To quote Canada.com this is the "strike of the stupids".
