Yesterday we made a marathon speed trip to Vancouver, BC. We were meeting some friends at the aquarium in Stanley Park. We got everyone up at 6:00, left at 7:oo, hit the border at 9:45, Vancouver traffic at 10:01 and the park by 10:45. whew! Everyone was extremely well behaved in the car with the exception of my knitting, which is currently having a very long time out. In case you were wondering, no, I cannot knit in the car.
This was the first time either of the boys had been to Canada and Crusty was anxious to change some money so we stopped at the border visitor bureau, changed some cash and bought aquarium tickets.
We met our hosts and had a fabulous morning touring the aquarium, watching the dolphins fly and the turtles swim. The beluga whales are awesome! After a lunchtime encounter with a mama racoon and her babies, we took the kids to the splash pad where they happily played together for several hours, splashing and dashing with the amazing backdrop of Lions Gate Bridge and English Bay.
We had an amazing, delicious dinner and headed home with two tired sleepy boys and a car load of cookies, chocolate and ICE CREAM BARS, all peanut free. The US Customs Agent took pity on us and basically waved us through. It was nearly midnight and I guess a car load of sleepy, sandy folks, with bags of peanut free treats ( only available in Canada) didn't look like much of a threat.
We had a wonderful day and look forward to many more trips north.
