Some interesting developments.

Reading in the fort.

This has been a big summer for Doodle. Learning to read, riding without training wheels, learning to swim without sinking, mastering sleeping alone all night in your own bed. Big stuff.

The most interesting though has been the disappearance of the "peanut pie." For the past couple of years, nearly every night at dinner he would have a story about his boss, The First President of Life, and the peanut pie. Doodle has maintained that he works in space fairly consistently since the introduction of this book some years ago. Every night as we were recounting our days he would tell us about his day in space. Most scenarios involved the boss bringing a peanut pie to work. Some days Doodle in Space would remember not to eat the pie and some days he would forget and eat it. When he forgot he would "almost not die" and his boss would laugh at him. Some times he would tell us that he did die, but came back to life on the return flight to Earth. After a year or so the First President of Life died after eating something that he was allergic to, he was replaced by the Second and then Third President of Life, all of them died mysteriously.

Like clockwork, as soon as we sat down at the table, he would start to talk about the peanut pie. At first it was alarming. But we figured he was working out some anxiety about his allergy. We have not heard a peep about the peanut pie since he passed his food challenge. Literally. The day of the test at dinner, nothing. Not the next day, or the next week, or in fact the next month. Not. A. Word. It vanished. He still talks about space and is working life there. It's full of aliens, and crisis and solutions. Heroes and the occasional villain, but no peanuts.

I wonder if he still thinks about the peanut pie but I haven't wanted to ask why it never comes up anymore. I am impressed that he found a way to express his anxiety on his own and thankful that it isn't there anymore.

I wonder what will happen in Space when he is spending all day in kindergarten!

Interesting how kids process things. @ talked about the fire in our house every single day for a least a year and then it slowly moved to every other day and then a couple times a week then couple times a month then a few times every few months and now it is rare that he mentions we had a fire in our house. And he never spoke of as if he was afraid. Just matter of fact how the firemen came to our house to put out the fire.

Now that he can go to bakeries, he carefully saves each bakery bag. Shakes out the crumbs, smooths them out and saves them in his little kitchen. It is very cute and his collection is growing.

Okay that is WAY cute, but I also fear for little mice getting interested in his collection!

I love that kid. Later when he's older, he will explain the whole peanut pie to you, I'm sure. I've gotten some very interesting explanations from Peter and Tenley on stuff that went on when they were little. That's what therapy is for, right? :)

Kathryn C Awe, wow!

that's just beyond awesome, on so many levels (galactic and stellar and more)
