Since my last post so many of you have written or called and told me how our situation has affected what you do ( or don't do!) involving kids and food. Reading labels where you might not have before. Not taking a peanut butter sandwich to the park. Packing a nut free lunch for your school age kids, just because you can. Asking to have open containers of nuts moved above kid reach level at grocery stores ( hello! That one should earn you a medal!). Washing peanutty hands before leaving the house. Calling ahead to ask about nuts in desserts, even when it isn't your kid who is affected. Buying peanut safe candy for Hallowe'en, and posting a sign about it. Challenging schools and teachers to find non food ways to celebrate in the classroom. Keeping packaging for visiting friends to inspect BEFORE the kids eat it.
You cannot believe how happy this makes me. A bunch of small things, not brain surgery or plugging that damned hole in the gulf, but important things. Things that make the world a little friendlier to a food allergy family. That alone makes our brief three year struggle worth it.
Carry on people! Carry on!

I've been thinking about you, wondering how you're doing, beyond the excitement and happiness. Is there still some anxiety as you adjust? I hope it's just all relief and joy.
